Longtermism refers to the ethical stance which gives priority to improving the long-term future (given there are infinitely more people in the future). Longtermist solutions are less certain but greater in impact. Examples of longtermist donations would look like donating to AI Safety, Pandemic Prevention, or Climate Change Prevention. Neartermism refers to the ethical stance which gives priority to improving a more certain near-term reality. Neartermist solutions are more certain but smaller in impact. Examples of neartermist donations would look like donating to anti-malaria foundations, deworming, or poverty alleviation.
